Kids know what this is, and the DEAR routine, from elementary school.⁠

During DEAR Time, students choose any book they want and quietly and independently read somewhere in the classroom.⁠
 

 
It's a special time of the school day, and a needed change of pace, usually after recess or lunch hour.⁠
 

 
Try implementing DEAR Time in your home.⁠
 

 
Get everyone in the family on board, with a book of choice, and read in a designated time.⁠
 

 
Maybe it will become a new family habit!⁠
